People's Court Blog: July 28, 2013: Watching other Shows, Animal Rescue and Weight Loss Journey Update

People's Court has been repeat episodes. The shows are still an insight to our behavior, but it is time to branch out and talk about other shows.

American Ninja Warrior
What an inspirational show! This is about people and an obstacle course. Pure skill, stamina and a little luck thrown in! The goal is to reach Mount Midoriyama in Japan and now a recreated Mount Midoriyama in Las Vegas. Here is a blog from someone training and competing:

He can explain so much better. The competitor profiles are truly inspiring! They make me wish I was an athletic person. Please watch and let me know what you think!

King & Maxwell
Pure entertainment. You laugh and cry and enjoy the entire cast of this show. The interaction between King & Maxwell remind me of Moonlighting! Please watch and let me know what you think!

Boy Meets World
An oldie but a goodie! I am enjoying the earlier episodes when the kids were really young. What a great show. I am looking forward to the new show, Girl Meets World. It has big shoes to fill, please do not disappoint!

Thank you for joining me today. Continue watching television and please share your thoughts and favorite shows with me!

Please check out this animal rescue group and find it in your heart to support their efforts.

Weight loss journey update - here it is almost one month later and I have kept off the 6 lbs. I feel really good about that. I have continued with drinking more water each day, not eating after 9 pm and eating more fruit than I usually do. Incorporating these healthier habits into my daily lifestyle has made me feel so much better. The glitch is that I have an injury and I am not able to exercise as much as I would like to. Still the slow and steady approach is a sure way to keep the weight off. I have not tried the intermittent fasting yet. I am reading about it and find it intriguing. I would like to incorporate it one day a week into my schedule. I will continue to try to eat better and limit the sweets!

People's Court Blog - Monday - July 8 2013

The show today is a repeat.

Lizbeth is not happy with the services from Steve, a lawn care specialist. She wants all of her money back from a contract signed with Steve - $3406.00. Lizbeth claims that not only did her lawn not get better, it actually got worse. She is accusing Steve of putting something on the lawn to kill it and grow weeds and then she says she does not think he put anything on the lawn. Besides the fact that her approach does not make sense, she has no proof. Her new lawn care specialists did not provide any information that Steve did not do his job. She does not get her money back. Court is about proof, not just being unhappy with services rendered! What do you think?

Randolph is suing Hugh for $2652.34. Hugh was behind Randolph at an intersection. He admits he is at fault, he "tapped" the back of Randolph's car. Hugh offered Randolph $100.00 on the spot. Randolph refused it but does not call the police. It is very important to call the police when you have a car accident, even if it is just a "fender bender". The two men do exchange insurance information, that was a good idea. Hugh seems to think that Randolph was committing insurance fraud, he accuses him of switching cars. It seems that Randolph sold his car and then registered the car he was driving the day of the accident only the day before. The paperwork takes time to catch up. There was no insurance fraud, but it does seem Randolph is trying to take advantage of the situation. Hugh testifies that Randolph called and wanted $1400.00. The estimate is almost double that amount. The Judge believes that Randolph asked for the $1400.00 and that is the amount he is awarded. It is never a good idea to try to negotiate a settlement and then go to court and ask for more money. What do you think?

Kim is suing Erica for $2521.05. On June 2nd, Erica's 2 dogs jumped out of the window of her car and went after Kim and her little dog. Her dog was not hurt. It costs over $1000.00 to find out all was good with her little dog. Erica admits it is her fault and is willing to pay the vet bill. She did not feel she was responsible to pay for a missed day of work 10 days after the attack and acupuncture treatments. Kim states that she re - injured her back when she was fighting off the dogs. She is also suing for pain and suffering due to nightmares she now has since the attack. The Judge finds in favor of Kim for $447.50, the balance of the vet bill and part of the acupuncture treatments. Kim does not get lost wages and pain and suffering, she is not able to prove these elements. It is never a good idea to drive with the windows open enough for a dog to jump out. The dogs will jump, no matter how well trained they may be. Erica understands she is financially responsible for what her dogs caused. She did not want to pay for all of the "extras". I do not blame her. I feel really bad for her that she now has to fight to get her dogs back. I wish her luck!

Now, please join me as I embark on a weight loss journey. On July 1st, I decided to start eating healthier. I have been trying to lose weight for years. Many attempts at fad diets and weight loss programs. Now, I will try a new approach. Drink lots of water, do not eat after 9 pm, eat healthy snacks and ... I will try to incorporate small changes to my daily lifestyle. Major changes are a road to failure. Small changes are attainable. I am going to continue these changes for this week. I am also reading about intermittent fasting. I want to try it, I just need to find the right time to start...any day now!!!

Week 1 weight loss: 6 lbs - great job!  - keep up the good work - stay motivated!!!!

More Life Lessons

I am still watching People's Court. There is so much to learn from this show. Adding a co-worker/friend to a cell phone plan. Remember this is a very bad idea. This particular case differed in that the people sounded like they remained friends. It is good to know that going through this situation did not ruin their friendship. Trying to be nice and help people out sometimes ends with the parties not talking to each other. It is always a shame to see friendships ruined, no matter what the reason.

A woman ordered custom sweatshirts for her daughter and son-in-law to be. The artwork on  one of the sweatshirts was not centered on the back. It was off by inches! The owner of the shop would not replace it because he said the customer was rude and obnoxious. What is wrong with people these days? There was an obvious mistake that needed to be corrected and he did not like her attitude. She says she was very nice and who really knows what happened in the shop that day. It should have been resolved quickly at the store, since the item was not what the customer expected. This situation could have been avoided totally. The customer did not check the order before she left the store. When someone orders a custom made item, check it thoroughly before leaving the store. Do not accept something that is not what you ordered.

A college student being sued by the landlord for the rent of the other two roommates. The landlord kicked out the 2 roommates, for good reason. What she did not realize is that her actions had consequences. To expect the remaining roommate to pay the entire rent did not make any sense. He tried to get additional roommates and was not able to. This was a good lesson for landlords. In this case, going to court was very beneficial for the college student.

What we learned today: Once again - do not add anyone to your cell phone plan- always check merchandise before you accept it - if you are sued, go with the flow, if you are in the right, it will benefit you.

Thought for the day:
Keep a positive outlook.

Life Lessons Continued

Thank you for joining me on this journey...

The most recent episode of People's Court has new lessons for us. Be careful of contracts. Of course, it is important to have a  contract.  Written is the best, but even a verbal contract is good. A meeting of the minds is what we need to remember. The young woman wants her security deposit back, even though she did not give the proper amount of notice. She had a lease and read into it what she wanted it to say. We often do this, since we want to believe we are in the right. Unfortunately, she did not follow the agreement to the letter and did not get her money back. She understood what the judge explained to her and that will benefit her in the future. Another case, a man rented a Winnebago. Again, there was a written contract. More detail would have been a benefit to both sides. When the vehicle was returned 6 days early, the men should have discussed and documented the condition of the vehicle. Also, if  he was going to get any money back for returning the vehicle early. When people are unhappy with the verdict, they say the judge did not understand. And the woman with the dog, blaming the groomer for a skin condition. She waited six days to take her dog to the vet. The vet did not connect the dog's condition to the recent grooming. Once again, the person bringing the case, did not seem to learn from the experience.

We learned that contracts should be very specific, read before you sign. With rental vehicles, document the condition before and after. When a pet is injured, go to the vet right away.

A heartwarming story on Anderson. Igor, over 7 ft. tall, needs shoes that fit him. They are very expensive and he has reached out to the public to help. Until now, the family did everything themselves. Having proper shoes will enable him to get out of the house. Walking is difficult for him and also the shoes he wears continue to cause him to have additional health problems. Anderson put together people to help him. New shoes, new wardrobe and a new mattress. Igor was genuinely overwhelmed by this generosity. I hope Anderson checks in with Igor in the future, so we can share in his happiness. Please remember in these difficult times, people are kind.

Thought for the day:
Acts of kindness are their own reward.
